I decided to take a peek at the member activity and noticed of 112 member 49 have 10 posts or less and 25 have zero posts. I didn't expect the numbers to be that big. Not that it's good or bad but just something I didn't expect to see.
Some folks just have less things to say than others.....

i never cared AT ALL about posts counts --
not here or on the on the old s2g site-
as SD said --
some of us are just louder than others

but the bottom line REALLY IS --
that its 5.000 times much more interesting...........
to read ALL the posts that ALL OTHERS write
than our own!!!

- i suggested on the 'other' site -that all post counts be eliminated-
but -- i guess for some strange reason???
the mods thought they were 'important'
i think -----they are the absolute most unimportant matter we will
EVER have to know about

to that end --i suggest -- we all go back to zero
once we hit TEN -- thats it -- forever.

I think we touched Ira's nerve here.
I do agree Ira, it's content and participation not post counts that make the forum. I'm beginning to think the thread I started here might actually have no useful purpose other than to pad my post count.

Just for that, I think we should add another VU meter and make the post count a MUCH LARGER FONT!!!!
j/k... How about this... rather than eliminate the post count completely, how about an individual option show/hide, or a view on not view?
So, if you want to show your count to others, you can choose to or not. Or, if you want to see others' post count, you can see it or not. Obviously, if someone doesn't want their post count shown, then it would be hidden, regardless of whether or not the viewer has the show selected.
At some level, I think not showing a post count might encourage lurkers to post.

I really don't most people are going to post junk just to drive up their count. It can be helpful to know what the count is. I had a question on a different board that did not have post counts. It was hard to tell the difference between the person who had been around awhile and might have useful information and the person who was fresh off the boat.
I know that post count does not = IQ. If there is a way to give thumbs up or down to a post and keep a count of the +/- votes people place on these posts we could have some way of showing the value of the members contributions. Maybe that could be translated to the level meter or something. And only posts in certain forums count.... no voting in the off-topic section etc. It may be to complicated to administer, but if it is possible it could provide some value and keep garbage posts down to a minimum....

i like jaetees plan --
to make it optional -
my first choice -- is that ONLY the first 5 or 10 should count (if any)
and then -- no counts after that
