I usually keep one in the living room on the coffee table, to listen to music while playing video games. It gets used a couple times a week, but not much lately since the main game I'm playing has a lot of dialog. The same box often gets moved to the kitchen when cooking or cleaning.
I also keep a tiny boring Philips in the laundry room for listening to in the basement. It only gets used as a FM radio and gets real good reception in the basement. My wife listens to C-SPAN on it a lot. I seem to use only on weekends and usually listen to This American Life or Towson State while down there.
We go to the drive in movies most every other weekend. I usually take two boomboxes to provide sound while we watch the movies from our lawn chairs. Usually a 3 piece box and something old school looking, I try not to take anything too nice if there is a chance of rain or the movies are running until dawn since the dew can get way heavy then. I do take more than enough umbrellas to them keep them from getting soaked, but I do worry about the other moisture risk. We try to show up early to get a front and center spot , and have lots of room to place the radios around our tables and chairs.
