If you take on a project too big, it will probably fail.
May I suggest 2 different models: Finish the first one before going on to the second one.
Most companies do this. Think of the models from the 70s. It took years for a mono to grow up to a M90/Big Ben in performance.
1. Make a boomer that is really just a glorified speaker system. No tuner, no tape deck. Use a iphone base in front so you have touch controls.
2. Once #1 goes out the door, enhance it by looking into a real tuner and tape player.
features on #1 that should be optional depending on how much it increases the scope/complexity:

equalizer
lights over the speakers
strobe lights (but pleas allow them to be turned off )
