NOPE, not finished yet! Once the top deck surround sticker arrives it will be complete!hemiguy2006 said:Looks amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. But it's not finished
Floyd, I am right there with you. Outdoor playback at high volume is when this thing shines. I have to say, I don't know if it's this particular radio or 931's in general, but the mids and highs are utterly fantastic. I just heard MellyMelsr's M90 POUNDING in a Las Vegas hotel room and the mids and highs of this, rival that. (here comes the hate mail). DarkSideWill and I had some Michael Jackson ripping and was totally floored at the clarity of the high's at very high volume. Plus, very few woofers wallop like Lasonic 8 inchers. It's hard to look away when they do their dance. While placed in the driveway on the cement, next to the garage door, this thing is a concert hall in a box. I have done allot of street blasting with my 935 and 975 and this thing is cleaner at higher volumes hands down. I think it is louder too. I will have to test that.JVC Floyd said:When you see those big white speakers pumping on the TRC 931 no other box can match that . These boxes were made to be used outdoors and that's really where are they sound the best. Looks awesome brother my second favorite model Boombox of all.
Ha Ha! Not Happening! I think this will be the pillow in the casket :ghost:blu_fuz said:Its so ugly, send it to me.
It must sound special. I'm thinking it must be a low usage box that was stored in favourable conditions - (temperature wise at least).Lasonic TRC-920 said:Thank you all for the kind words. I know that Lasonic get's hammered on for their quality, but I will say again, a well sorted Lasonic holds up very well. With any radio, if it has been opened up 20 times in it's lifetime, if missing screws or other various parts, they become creaky, rattle traps. Those rattles and vibrations add to the sour sound characteristics. Sharps and JVC's they are not, especially in the deck department. But the tuner in this 931 is phenomenal. Rock solid station locking. And the line in is really powerful. Even louder than the line in and deck playback making it a great candidate for a bluetooth modification.

It's really hard to know how or why this thing sounds so good. I have heard others, like Melly's perfect 931 and it was amazing as well. But if a radio, any radio has had a hard life or a ton of hours put on it, it just might be worn out. Being from Florida and see the rust and corrosion on it, I was expecting the worst and I figured, for $99, it could just be a nice display to go with my other Big Lasonic's. But that's just not the case. I could easily see this becoming my "Daily Driver". For years I found myself always grabbing the TRC-935. Most recently I have reverted back to the 920. But I think it's time this 931 gets some time in the sun!jimmyjimmy19702010 said:It must sound special. I remember the story where someone recapped a M9998 and whilst it sounded better than before, it was still outperformed by another original M9998 that just sounded better!?
You do take a big risk when you take on a box like this that many would have walked away from but it's paid off big time!!!
To have it turn out to be your best performing Lasonic makes me smile. Remember that roadside GF-9696 of mine that looked like hell?? Yep, after a complete rebuild, it turned out to be the best sounding GF- 9696 I've heard!!
James......
I never thought a Lasonic would have these kinds of highs. It's super bright with the EQ pushed up and there is enough adjustment to pull it back down to earth. I have pounded some dubstep through it and it does as well as the 975, which says allot. The case is really solid, no rattles at all. I couldn't be more impressed.trippy1313 said:Great work brother. I knew you'd like this box when you finally got one. It's a great sounding box, no doubt. Mine all sound pretty good, very good bass, smooth, but not overpowering is how I feel. But like you say, with very clear mids and highs.
I think my 920 with the Kenwood speakers is much louder, but the bass is too... (punchy?). I feel the 931 has a great bass line with the right adjustments to fit anything.
Beautiful work Chris yet again.
Well, I guess I will have to bring this over for a visit so you can have a listen!Hisrudeness said:Great work Chris very inspirational.
I still don't own any Lasonics after 13 years of collecting!
Would be great to hear your own review of it compared to your other favourite Lasonics.
