I'm sure there'd be marked differences between some models.

like i always said lasonics are the best cheap boxes you can buy ,no other box i know of is as cool as these for what they cost new ,and they sound good.for what they are.

They sound good period. I must say the 99 reissue sounds very good as well. I have yet to hear a 2nd version (VU on left) though. I'm assuming it's sound and construction match mine, although the tape mechanism is inferior. As it doesn't have soft touch like the original (vu on right) does.
