I think we have some aluminum here from jobs we did. I will have to check. It will not be very strong and they will bend if you are actually using them. The powder coating yes, will chip/wear off from where it clips into the BBX, but everything else will be great for a long time.
I might be able to get them coated in Zinc. It is that silvery chemical finish. We have a load of parts going out for Zinc coating soon so I could work those pieces into the mix.

That's what I will do, either raw steel, Zinc coating, or Black powder coat. Good?

I'm just worried about chips of powder coat gumming up the inside of the locking mechanism. I'd hate to have accumulated powder chips cause a failure in the locking mechanism that results in a JVCrash... 1/8th aluminum should be strong and lightweight. How about stainless?

I can do whatever you guys want that I offered. I can mask off the clip area that goes into the BBX so that just that is raw and the rest is coated?

I will have to see what material we have in the shop. We have all steel and some random aluminum and stainless. Plasma cutters change the color of stainless on the edge and the stainless we have done was for countertops and will not be thick enough.

Maybe for aluminum and a definete for steel. I will look.

Raw steel sounds good! It'll rust a bit, but as long as it's kept up and cleaned it'll just end up looking street/rugged! HAA DOPE!

So I'll ask again. Anybody know if this will work on 838's and 656's? :dunce:
My guess would be "yes".

I doubt JVC would have integrated the use of a shoulder strap without making the strap usable across the board. But, that's just a guess. ;-)

These are drawn and ready to be cut. Do we all agree that these have to be 1/8" or a tad less? Based off the pics shown of the BBX slot, it definetly can't be over 1/8". Please confirm - thanks - JOE

I remember reading at S2G that standard, automobile seatbelt clips work with some modification to width. I would imagine that you could measure the thickness of one and go from there.

I have used car seatbelts and yes, they work, that thickness is strong, and does not wiggle in the slot, 97 Nissan Maxima I think I used...I would love a couple of sets as well--Fatdog, Pm me as I have a few M70s I was going to put up, but they are all in excellent condition and had belts changed, You get special consideration of course :smooch:

Ya, these look too much like seatbelt clips. I would probably just modify one of those if I were you guys. I did cut two steel 1/8" clips and I have to clean them up a bit with a file. A programmable plasma cutter is no where near the tolerance that the original clips are made to. The original clips are stamped by a machine making great finished cuts.

If seatbelts work with little modification, that would be easier for me to make up for everyone. I go to the junk yard every saturday and can pickup any make/model of seat belt clips. I'm sure I can get plenty that look similar to the dimensions of the ones shown earlier too.

I will search the yard to see what I find.

The plasma cut clips are not very good. This small piece gets too hot and doesn't produce a good enough piece. Sorry guys, I won't have a group buy for these because I am not happy with how they turned out.

Like I stated before, your best bet would be to get seatbelt clips and grind down to what you need.

I just went to the junk yard today and got some cherokee seatbelt clips. I had to remove about 3 mil from the tip and a mil from each side. they work PERFECTLY! The strap is next!

See, that's the way to go. Then you end up with a chrome'd piece that you just have to put some touchup paint on the edges or leave it raw. Nice job. Post a pic if you have it.

They clip right in. I have to say though, I still don't trust it 100%. I walked around the house last night testing it out and I always had my hand on the handle as a safety. I know JVC engineered it well and all that but it's scary to think it could let go! I need to work on that. HAHA!
