it's one of those boxes you have to listen too a lot in order to appreciate the sound , out doors they can get fairly loud if you turn the bass down , i think the size of the woofer was meant to project a large sound more than it was meant as a thumping sub woofer so if you base your judgement on bass you will be disappointed .

overall it's not horrible sounding you just have to remember the era in which it was made and what it was made for , and these do a damn fine job at that .

That's a great thing to remember.

Does it really sound that good?

It is really nice! The bass is warm and we cannot expect the big hit from a 15 Watts RMS unit. Mine sounds so good! This was from the original owner who treasured it. It is in like new condition. The radio is so sensitive.

I've heard a few good things from some people about the sound of that box... Not so good things from others...

Still, it's a nice looking unit!

Now, JVC does usually have better tuner reception than Panasonics, but other than that.....

Hi Reli, I was missing this JVC mono unit. 5350 is one of the top class boomboxes. JVC 550 has it's own class.

RC838 is a very clean and clear sounding box, but don't expect lots of bass from them. The radio is powerful. The stereo, stereo wide, mono slector switch needs good cleaning with Deoxit. I love it!
