A friend of mine has one of these hes going to give me for free. Don't know a thing about it. Anyone familiar with this mini?

Two good things - it's free and it's a JVC.

Looks good too. You'll definitely need a couple of reel cassettes like in the picture.

heh, yeah. I've got a couple of them. Would like to have some more. I found an ebay auction for a pack of ten eagle c-15's for 25 bucks shipping included. Are those tapes decent?

Hi Everyone; new member here!! I've been enjoying browsing this site for some time now.
With that being said, the JVC RC-W44 was my very first boombox!! Got it for Christmas in 1987.
Used it for years, and literally loved the poor thing to death. Sadly, I finally tossed it some years ago; long before I discovered pocketcalculatorshow.com and this site and thus realized what I had done....grrrr!!!

You wouldn't believe the bass that comes from those '4 speakers!
(and yes, I would love to have another one...just saying!)

Correction....I had the RC-W44J.....same box with a voltage selector. The one pictured above must have been the overseas version because mine didn't have the shortwave tuner and none of the very very few I've seen since didn't have one either. Just missed one on fleaBay :'-( :'-( :'-( :'-(

Sorry about your JVC. Don't feel too bad. I destroyed an M70 and PC-5 by tinkering with them too much when I was a teenager, about 27 years ago. I don't even remember what happened to their carcasses.

Mine had.....red duct tape holding it together by the bottom and the 2 tape well doors...but....it all still worked! Yeah, it got taken apart a bunch of times and never was the same again, especially after the first time. Djetaine: hope you are enjoying yours at least!

I will probably have that one. It reminds my International thing I had at 9 and destroyed at 11 xD
