Damn lol. Shlts getting hot on the block.
Anybody who don't want their 727 I'll give it a good home .
I know these boxes aren't going to bring the house down but damn these type boxes are the prototype for everything that came after them. And to me that's worth something.

Oh and there's no law against changing the speakers these do have weak speakers that when changed to better ones makes a noticeable difference.
Even the mighty gf 777 sounds flat as a pancake but good speakers wakes these things up.

Very true - the 727 is a gateway model for those that followed. It’s certainly a box worth getting if you’re keen on having an example of each early model released by JVC. Unique styling makes it a nice display model too. :-)

I like a cool looking smaller box because I just too damn old to sport a conion , even an m90 is about as big a box as I want to lug around. I think Panasonic had the power to weight ratio perfected.

Isn’t the 727 the predecessor to the 838? Just thinking it might be,it’s a little older I think 76’ era vs.838 78’ era. I like the looks of them.😎📻

JVC released these as a series of boxes , Im pretty sure the 727 and 828/838 are boxes in that particular line up .let's not forget the rc 550 .

So to sum it up they were released at basically the same time.

We all know JVC is awesome but we also know they weren't perfect but you have to start somewhere.

Thanks Floyd,I kind of thought that could be the case.

I've had boxes that people say sounded like crap but weren't that bad to me and also had boxes that were supposed to he the shite except they sounded like a drowning horse.
You can't win em all and show me anybody who says they would not want this box when they were a kid back when people were still carrying pocket transistor radio's.
Eww! Poor horsey. :sadno:

I just watched a Japanese boombox documentary on YouTube that said JVC tended to build their boomboxes for men as evidenced by the rugged, almost military-inspired design of most of their models. The 727, 838 & 550 are obvious examples of that opinion. The ruggedness of its looks is why I bought my 727, 838 and 9475. It’s why I want the 550 and RC-717.

That's interesting and it makes sense. Those boxes just look like they're ready for anything. And they are pretty tough actually. I have a big Lasonic 931 that looks (and surprisingly sounds) great but I fear even moving it from one shelf to the next because I've worked on it and I know how sensitive all of its little plastic parts are. My 838 is like "Throw me in the back of the Jeep man, let's go to the beach!" I mean it actually has a roll bar guarding the cassette buttons!

btw- Do you remember the name of the youtube vid? Sounds interesting.

Hi! The YouTube channel is “Boombox Japan” and the series of videos is “Japanese Old Boombox design Catalog”. It’s a multi part series. Here’s the link to the video about Victor/JVC: https://youtu.be/YGnRlUNDALo
