yep.. look good I hope.. tweeters do make a difference.. still need to add the USB/SD MP3 card reader in the cassette well.. but had this apart for a month and was anxious to get it together and see how it looked.. also changed the LCD backlight to red.. I have 2 more boombox mods to do.. they will be a bit.. the Panandriod RX-5250 is almost done too.. just found a way to make all data sent wirelessly.. so the next mod will have no external connectors.. except the tablet ON/OFF and RESET buttons..

What usb/sd/mp3 card reader are you talking about? Is this some factory accessory, or are you talking about some custom device? I would love to add something like that to mine, but then again, the kaboom already has a 1/8" phono jack for aux operation.... :hmmm:

no it's not factory.. I removed the cassette portion completely.. I was originally going to add a Andriod tablet where the cassette was.. but it just wouldn't look right.. so the MP3/USB player will be behind the cassette door.. open it and stick a USB/SD card in and go.. there's a remote for the player too.. debating if I should have a rechargeable battery inside for portable use.. I honestly never trek around with my boxes.. what do you think?

here's a pic of the player..

could also add some audio vu meters over the front woofers.. now wouldn't that be cool..

being that the Kaboom is round, you need to find the smallest tweeter possible so that it isn't affected by the curve of the case.. the tweeters are less than an inch across.. you can buy them here.. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=275-025 just need a capacitor that limits bass frequencies.. 2.2uf 50v bipolar.. make sure it's bipolar.. adding a tweeter makes a world of difference to the sound.. full spectrum sound now.. and I really like the look.. cant wait to add the MP3 portion.. hours and hours of music on a Kaboom would be awesome..

wasn't to hard.. making sure the holes were even was probably the hardest part (and finding the perfect tweeter).. once the holes were drilled (used a 1 inch hole saw) then used a dremel tool to make the hole larger until it made a perfect fit.. then wire it off of the midrange woofers.. glue the tweeters to prevent air leaks and vibrations.. put it back together and enjoy!

There's a mini-woofer baffle behind the speaker. Takes a lot of room. Did the tweeters interfere with that basket? There would be significant loss of tight/bass response if that basket was compromised. Looks like it has to seal completely to be effective.

nope it's still there.. the wiring is closed into the inside of the baffle and the wires run from there to the tweeters.. no vibration issues.. it sounds excellent..

If possible, try to install the VU LED meter in that red foot portion... ...looks nice...

Cheers. B-)
