I'm new to the amazing world of boomboxes & ghettoblasters. Got the Universum Supersound 16000 for 33,50€ (around 40 US Dollars). As I don't know that much about ghettoblasters I'd like to ask you guys if you happen to know anything about it. How is the sound quality? Did I pay too much? etc. etc.

Here's a pic:

Thx for your answers in advance!

Sound quality is one of the major aspects I am looking for. Especially when I'm camping or at the local pool...from what I've heard are the portable devices of the 80s much more capable than those fugly mp3 CD monsters from the 90s/ 2000s. Besides, I really like the big oldschool design of the ghettoblasters. They are also quite the eyecatcher. I just didn't want to spend like a 100 bucks or more on my first boombox. Connecting my mp3 player with this baby (it has a line in input) shouldn't be a problem, or is it?

not sure about your universum ?
mine is the telefunkien AKA version -
it requires a 5-pin DIN plug-

so --you wont know -till you get and try yours -

either way --you got a great deal

where are you from ?

Southern Germany. The country is Baden- Würrtemberg (west of Bavaria) and the town I come from is like 17 miles south of Stuttgart (you know, where the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche come from). ;-)
Greetings from Germany!

mostly they are not if it has a dedicated line in you should be fine,, to me the 80 boxes were built very tough now a days most newer stuff dont even compare,, even the cheaper 80 boxes are stil better than anything except the higher end like the altec lancing ipod mp3 player which cost some money then you have your jvc kaboom and lasonic i931 which also plays ipods ,,, but the older boxes really makes heads turn it really brings back those teen memories... so you cant go wrong and the good part is that most of the guys here might have had that perticular box and can give you a better insight on what to expect ,, look at all the post you can ask all the questions you have,, that way you will know for sure how it fairs out,, i have only had the chance to listen to the telefunken version of that box it sounds real good , if you are taken it to the pool or beach i belive you will love the sound , when i saw it the first time to me i would never think it would sound that good when i cranked it up wow... :-)
