Cassette decks sound clean. I am the same way. The #1 rule I have for my collection is, the cassette deck has to work and work well. That sounds great and the speed sounds dialed in for both decks. Rock on brother 8-)

Thanks! =) I worked hard to get the speed & azimuth as close as I could by ear. I'm sure it could use a proper test tape tuning but I can't hear any difference between source & tape.

I have a speed calibration tape and can usually get it close enough by ear to not really need one but I bought it to soothe the anal part of me.
I haven't heard that song in a while, sounds great but I almost jumped out of my skin when you picked the camera up o_O

Cool. Sorry for the video panning. I like to demonstrate the sound is coming from the boombox & not a dub over. Also, I like to show off the cosmetic condition up close.

To dial in the tapedecks, I cue up the source song & recorded version until they are in sync & adjust speed until there isn't any drift between the 2 or tonal differences in sound between the digital source & recording. I can get it hairsplitting close that way, every time. Azimuth is pretty easy to dial in with headphones & with a good ear. I love doing this & it takes hours to do this way to be accurate as possible.

I'm the same way. I have a factory new cassette that I have the CD for as well. I play the CD and sync the cassette to the digital playback. Cassette decks are never perfect, but as long as it plays for over 1 minute of the song in sync, I call it calibrated.

The calibration tape is nice, I can literally dial in the speed in less than 15 seconds.
I bought it years ago and probably paid less than $20.
I must've used it at least 20 times so I think it was a pretty good investment.

Nice!! I don't have a test tape & not sure who to trust for a good accurate tape.
