Hey Eddy, I've been wanting to ask someome who has/had both the 480 & 490/492 series. Can you tweek MORE bass from the 480 (which has no EQ) than the 490/492(EQ)? Or any other member that knows?

The bass is just not there on a PH 490 , even though it has an equalizer .

The sound control settings on my PH 480 . Treble is on maximum and the bass is set to +/- 65 % with the super bass off
The PH 480 has a solid deep bass that the PH 490 lacks . I have to be honest , even the M 90 lacks that deep bass
As i wrote before , i was pushing the 480 too hard but it is very loud anyway with almost half the power of a M 90
I really like the looks of a 480 too
Hope this helps :surf:

Well this is very interesting info seeing that I was thinking of getting the 490 before off a member but it EQ knobs were incorrect  But I do like the nice tuner on the 490 with tuner light  I truly love my 480 though and the sound is excellent   I will keep the volume down lower so the amp don't blow :-O Thanks!!!

I thought so. Thanks. I asked that question a while back and never checked in to see the answer. I might see about trading one of my 492s for a 480. Thanks.

Adam I think that might be a decent trade. I had the 460 which is a smaller version of the 480 and it was really nice except that it needed more bass and a little cleaner highs.

I still like the PH 490 , don't get me wrong. The built quality is super
The feel when you turn the tuning or volume knob says enough.
Great tuner

My first thought where the speakers. I never heard a PH 492.
The PH 492 has those speakers with chrome dustcaps and i thought these were the same as the ones in a PH 480
So i connected the PH 480 speakers to the PH 490 . Not much difference compared with the PH 490 speakers
I guess it's the way the power amp (with the equaliser ) is built up in the PH 490

i had a 480 way back in the day , i only had the center section my mom bought me at a yard sale but i hooked it up to two big ass sansui speakers and it sounded great

awesome box man i would take the 480 over any other fisher 3 piecer, just like the looks so much more but i would not turn down the others if i could get them .
