:agree:

Now how in the world did I miss that one. Especially since these old muscle vettes didn't have any audio worth mentioning. The only question that remains is whether the Aiwa is loud enough to overcome the deafening cacophony of the vette when it's running. :hmmm:

I don't care about the bassy bellows of the exhaust. To my ears, the unnatural lope of the cam is far more interesting and melodic. :-D People hear loud exhausts all the time. But when they hear the uneven rattatat of the huge cam, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE stops to gawk from blocks away. I've never pulled into a gas station without at least 20 pairs of eyes fixed on the car. To me, it's a sweet tune. To the untrained ear, it's like "what's wrong with that car." :w00t:

Very nice, I have a 950 that I got from Ira 3-4 years ago. I think it's identical to the 955 except for the metal trim and the music search feature. Probably has the same amps & speakers. It's not the loudest box, because the woofers are flexible which makes it sound nice and warm at low volume but forces you to turn down the bass at high volumes. But it's definitely one of the sweestest. The Wide setting is fantastic.

What did you do to make it sound a lot better? I know you cleaned the controls, but did you re-cap or anything like that?

hey reli - i know that ramon cleaned and tested that one --
but none our ours were ever re-capped --
each one i have heard or kept or sold has sounded marvelous -

and - until norm posted this good thread -
i could not ever imagine these small boxes could possibly
sound any better

but now --he says the re-capping has made his 955 sound MUCH better-

so - i guess that your 950 -
and ramons and skippys and my fleet -- :-)
are not at their peak performance

which PISSES US OFF !!! :'-( :annoyed: :annoyed:

thanks alot for the careful comparo, norm -
i would have just thought they were mostly identical twins

Check out the section above re semiconductors and you can tell that there are more differences than you would think.

Nice work Norm, very pretty box.

Hey Melvin... did you ever buy that Aiwa 950 (or was it a 955?) that I suggested to you? :hmmm:

I missed out on that one. It's been several months since I bought a boomer and I am over-due. I still need to drop off your M80 one of these days...

Superb work Norm, great stuff.

Agree that this is one difficult box to strip down, I tried and gave up on rebelting this beast, let alone capping etc.

Geat work, that colour looks amazing.
