Is this old Sanyo unit worth a shot ?

Been busy getting this thing cleaned up over the last couple of days. I've used up all my isopropyl alcohol cutting through the grime, need some more now to finish the job. The tape plays unevenly (more volume right than left) so a glld clean and azimuth adjustment might be in order there I think. The stereo radio actually sounds great - not massively loud but a nice full sound.

Great job you did, when you want to see a TV i guess you should connect a digital converter box to it, it should have some kind of external antenna socket, you can run a wire from converter box to TV, coax perhaps ? :-D

Some photos would also be nice, you don´t see a this kind of TV-box everyday

Great! VU meters and rolling dials are beautiful.

As i remember that box came with two external mics also with an attachment on it.

It looked like a space alien back in those days!

Those external mics looked like the mics for the M9998.

Can't find a pic of it with those mics. :bang:

I have to look up in my radio pics to find it.

Holy crap, that looks like something Robbie The Robot might carry around his neck - DANGER WILL ROBINSON !!

I'll get a few more pics of my unit up soon, clean up is going slowly so I'll get back to it and post progress.

Merry Christmas everyone :-)

Cool boomer. I always loved those tv boxes. Good luck on the repairs!

The volume difference in the tape deck does not sound like an azimuth problem to me. Could be, but I would rather expect lack of highs or lows on both tracks rather than a difference in volume. With a box of this age, especially when it's been sitting around doing nothing for many years, it's more likely that it's a (partly dried) electrolytic capacitor somewhere in the audio path from the tape to the pre-amp. Could also be a mechanical switch. I recommend cleaning all of those with deoxit, as well as the internal record bar, which is also a mechanical switch activated by the record button on your tape deck.

And while you're in there, also replace the rubber drive belts at the very least. They couldn't possibly be in a good state still unless they have been replaced fairly recently. Other rubber parts may also want some love like the pinch roller or idler wheel tires if your deck has those.
