Looks like a pain to clean and refurbish, TV module is fun to have, but nowadays just useless. I have Orion TV-Radio-Cassette boombox, looks fun :-D

I´d go for it if the price is right.

I like it. Once cleaned up it'll be a good looking, unusual box that appears it could survive a thermo-nuclear war, perhaps a bit of a talking point to boot!.

Very 70's. Don't have any TV boxes myself. I do have a very cool 80's little red tv but no boxes. If you like the more 70's style then go for it :-)

It's a cool box to restore. But it needs quite some work to get to the parts (belts etc). It sounds lovely, if you like the typical 70s Sanyo sound. For me it's a keeper. Here you can find some pics of how it looks naked.

Yikes, that looks frightening actually. I was scared when I opened my Toshiba RT-8097 which is relatively simple compared to that bad boy !!

Indeed it is mate - thanks for the heads up. I agree that testing wouldn't be too hard so I'm a bit cautious to be honest and maybe for a total newbie like me, it may be a 'bridge too far'.

How do you source boxes in NZ by the way ? Do you import ? I'm REALLY missing being in the UK for the availability of awesome and (relatively) cheap stuff !!

Probably against my better judgement, I pulled the trigger on it. What HAVE I done.......???
You've done great! You could always open it up for a wee peek inside, get used to it then take it from there.

Thanks mate, I hope so. I happen to work with a total genius of electronics so hopefully he can help me out if the box is 'pushing up the daisies'

Certainly a cool looking 70s Sanyo - great build quality.

Sort of a jack of all trades, master of none though.
A bit like me then mate - I like messing with stuff but by no means an expert with much of it. Unless it's converting digital cameras for infra red work - I'm quite adept at that :-)

ah, you did buy it. i think the price was a bit higher than that when first had it on. worth a go i guess. looked to heavy to warrant me buying and getting sent. depending where you are, i dont want to give away to many secrets. ha. but second hand shops, recycle shops etc etc. there are some cheap things out there, sometimes. iv got 1 sitting a a friends place in Adelaide that i got 2 weeks ago. wee bit precious to send so ill have to go collect at some stage next year. first 1 from overseas

Appreciate the comments mate, I probably over paid but what the heck it will be learning experience if nothing else. I'm in Hamilton and there are a couple of recycle shop at the waste disposal sites which are quite stocked with 'electronics' from what I hear. I'll have to check them out. Luckily, I'm on business in Akl on Thursday so I'm going to call in and pick the Sanyo up. Watch this space !!

Well, I have managed to get a master electrical engineer at my disposal and I pick up the unit tomorrow so fun times ahead. Does anyone have any ideas where I might get some replacement control knobs from - I noticed there are a couple missing, which is a tad disappointing.

It's ALIVE muaahahahaaaaa :-) Powers up, radio works, tape runs, TV tube works, antenna complete and in excellent condition.. Tape mechanism looks VERY dodgy though, I'm unable to receive a TV signal ( due to lack of VHF bands, I think), volume adjustment crackles hideously (presumably fixable with some contact cleaner ??)

Time for a clean up now :-)
