Holy cripes what a repair you are taking on. Looks like you can't make it worse  :dunce: .

Good luck man. Definetly a resto I wouldn't want to do......
I was thinking that about your M-71 and it came out fantastic!!
So I think there is hope for this one

a big shocker to me --is how crappy this really is // was inside :-O :'-( :-O

i bought it about 6 years ago --from peppin of HK --

paid a fortune $$ --only because i have never seen one for sale
( other than ONE basket case )-
and have never seen even one in the usa --since then -

everything worked and sounded REAL GOOD -
and even though the deck doors were loose ( when open )
they closed up pretty well -
and BOTH decks including recording worked fine -
as does the tuner and line-in
and ............... its a complete original gf1000 !!!!

so --basically --i was OK with the peppin deal-
i tend to overlook some cosmetic details if the box sounds good  :-D

but now --that frank has opened it --it seems like a beat up POS :sadno:
----------------------------------------

NOT FOR LONG   ;-)  :-)

First and foremost, HEMI, you are the king of the rebuild....I don;t know if you were the first (probably not) but you were the first I ever saw do this type of thing on this site. I would have never had the BALLS to dig into a radio like I have if not for your threads....

With that said....I have a 777z that scares the Shiat out of me AND I have the manual

A month ago Ira posted pictures of this very radio on the tail gate of his truck and I would have paid GF-$1000 (hypothetical, I am broke) for it on the spot! Now that she is getting the "Hemi Treatment" I would pay GF-$2000 for it (Hyptheical, I don't have a nickle to my name :-/ ) for it!

Second, if you have read this thread, you would notice Ira said he bought this radio 6 years ago! This should tell everyone something...Hang tight and sooner or later....Yep SOONER OR LATER....Hemi will fix your radio

SICK WORK GUYS! :chris920:

If it aint broke, don;t fix it.....

The beauty part is....that's money in the bank any day of the week!

But since I'm a hoarder....I would never

Thanks Chris. I don't know what to say but thank you.
My first restoration was posted on stereo2go many years ago. And since then I have enjoyed doing it as a huge part of the hobby.
If I have inspired one person in the community I am very happy :-)

Here are some progress pics. Got most of the body work done and started painting tonight.
The back case is now completed and the color matches perfectly. It is dark espresso by rustoleum
for anyone who may want to know.
I reinforced the cracks from the inside by epoxying pieces of flat plastic on the inside and then used jb weld on the outside
and sanded it smooth.
