Alright, I found a local guy to graffiti airbrush a boombox for me..... I'm going to do the Rap Up i931 I just got just to get an idea of the skill set of this graffiti guy. I will peel off the rap up decals and re-sticker the box afterwards.

SO, what is the main drive for graffiti art ideas?

I am into cars, boomboxes, music, family, love, friendship, skulls, bmx bikes.......

I just don't know what theme to start with. Maybe let the guy do his own thing and suprise me? I was thinking that the skull idea could turn out cool but an 80's or family themed box would be cooler.

I don't know - throw ideas at me. :hmmm:

I'm actually getting something together like this for one of my i931's too.

My usual plan of attack is to first look for a simple element that will work for the design of the radio. This was the same method I used for the Taira. After a lot of experiments and ideas I came across that angled pink/purple/yellow graphic, that became the basis for everything else.

I find keeping the initial idea as simple as possible and then building from that makes things work smoothyl and keeps the integrity of the original idea.

Look for one element you MUST have on it, whether it's a coloured shape, or specific graffiti piece and then see how it fits - on it's own- on the radio.

Once you get that sorted the rest will fall into place.

Here's where I'm up to with my ideas, still early days yet

While looking for a sample of what I would suggest, I ran across this. Not sure it's been posted before, but it's pretty much the opposite of what you are doing. Painting graffiti to look like a boom box, vs a boom box to look like graffiti.

Doesn't seem to remind me of any actual model I know off, but bonus credit for anyone that knows if it is a specific model.

GLU, I am loving the 80's neon/bright colors you have on your renderings...... keep throwing ideas my way. I only have 5 days until I meet up with this guy and a sketch like that would be ideal for him to layout in paint  .

love it

PS - I am really wanting to buy the white decals to put on this black box after the paint is done. Can you photo edit some white decals on your renderings??? Maybe add more white details to the airbrush artwork?? Thanks man!

One of my plans is to make up 'blank' decals you guys can then photshop and get printed off.
I should get to it this week as that's whats holding up more progress in my project...

Good luck, Joe!

Excellent works. I like all boomboxes.
Each is like a work of art - like a picture.
I think, you have great talent...

Tomorrow is the day - Still undecided if I want a 80's-90's splash look or graffiti.... I might just let the guy do whatever he wants because I can't decide

Why dont you do both have the graffiti guy do one half 80's graffiti then the other half 90's graffiti and blend them both at the middle you get the best of both worlds :-D

I dropped off the boombox this morning and all I know is that he is probably going to incorporate the word "BOOMBOX" and use bright 80's-90's colors on it  .

I told him to suprise me

UPDATE: probably be done this weekend  . Just wanted to let the primer setup really well before painting on it. So, any update is a good one, here is the pic of the box in primer - that's all I got!

Next step is the white base coat so that the neon/bright colors really pop and are good and vibrant :w00t: :superduper:
