I know it's rare but...

This reminds me of a super rare car being found in a barn in terrible condition but the rarity alone makes bidders go crazy.

I was wondering what your thoughts on this are. I am personally just watching in awe as the price climbs higher and higher. My guess is that it might sell for over 2000.

But really...you need a whole working black BB40 to make this presentable again. The case is cracked and the tuner knob is not original. Might be able to salvage that from another Toshiba box though.

Is it worth this much? Well...apparently it is. Did not expect that though.

At least it has the battery cover.

This one reminds me of a story I was told about how Litfan got cleaned out and that included his champaign bb40.
I dont think it looks as cool and it isn’t worth that price with a rear smashed case.

yes that story about Litfan was true Dave, litfan only paid £12 for his bombeat 40 though and that was on bids, i was lucky to witness that event....those were the good ol days man.....i don't know why people go crazy over them myself, everyone i have spoken to say there nothing special...i would like one but paying this amount people may as well set fire to there money imho

Given that it is at the price of a mint and fully working M90 right now, I'd rather have the M90.
Having owned a couple of black BB40s, I can confirm that they are not the best-sounding most high end boxes. They are very nice to look at and sound quite decent but the rarity does not justify the 4 figure prices that are being paid and asked.
Anyway...apparently there are enough people who would not agree with that opinion and are ready to empty their wallets for one. I guess there are more stupid ways to burn your money after all so if it makes the buyer happy, it's all good.

I got my champagne BB40 in similar, if not worse, condition but paid very little for it. It took two parts boxes and over two years to bring it back to fully working condition. It is surely very nice to have this model but if someone offered me a lot of cash for it, I am not sure if I would hold on to it by any means...

Well, someone undoubtedly has a parts box for it, so maybe it makes sense. I predict you'll see it back on Ebay 1 or 2 months from now, fully repaired and listed for $10,000.....and someone will pay it.

It honestly amazes me that someone was willing to pay this much for a beater box, no matter how rare.
I believe Reli is right and it might turn up for sale again fully restored on this Russian's expensive eBay account...probably 10k is not that unrealistic.

I wonder what the Egyptian seller thought when it sold for this amount. He's probably going to try and find more of them now. Who knows...maybe eBay will be flooded with champagne BB40s soon.

If the auction was legitimate ( no shill bidding) then I don’t have a problem with the final price because it indicates the market value of that box on that day. Bidders roll the dice and either win or lose.
Much worse to me are the distorted eBay Buy it now prices that are just set at random and can distort the price of a particular model forever. Sanyo M9994 for example. 4 on Ebay at the moment, cheapest one is €1100. That just sit there un-bought for years and years.
At least the gold Bombeat was rare and bidders showed what they were willing to pay for that rareness.
