aah, your first boomer - can't beat that feeling :-)

I've done exactly this & now own every mono & stereo boomer I ever did own back in the day - thankfully not too long a list.

I remember when I saw on eBay the little Philips I needed... that was it.
There were a couple of bids, & the price was £10 or so. I waited, asked the seller some stuff to keep things sweet & seconds before the end, hoyed in a simply enormous bid to make it mine. Turns out another £1 would've done it but no matter...

...you're heart will be in your mouth. When it's time - go for it!

That's the good thing about these odd little personal grails. There usually is not much competition for them. If you are willing to risk the money, you can score them for a fraction of what you were willing to pay. :ebay:

:-D

You guys are too much... I love this site & community...

Seriously, though... It wasn't that great at the time  or I wouldn't have been lusting after the Sharp GF's, JVC's and Aiwa's so much back then...

Truth be told, it's much more important to me to find a nice GF-9292. (for which I'd be willing to trade my Black GF-9191).

So, if anyone from here was/is that first bidder, or genuinely interested in this Wards box, I'm totally willing to pass up on it. I'm not willing to pay more than $30~$35 for it...

I have no idea how much this units are "worth" in usa. :hmmm:
I got a very similar JVC for 10euros without discussion.

So the best wishes to get your grail.

No, didn't get it.... :sadno:

In fact, I'm completely flabbergastered...

For starters. it was a relist item. The first time around I didn't bid because I thought I was going to be here but was not.... It went unsold for $14.99. So, as to make sure I didn't miss out on it again, I programmed esnipe to put in a bid for $32.77 just before auction end. Bidding was at $14.99 at that time and I knew I was not going to be here when the auction ended. After it didn't sell the first time around, I figured my $32 bid was more than adequate. No dice. :-O

How does it go from an untouched $14.99 relisted item to seven bids at almost $40???

It's almost like someone knew I wanted that box and was willing to pay in the low $30's for it and made sure that didn't happen... Like a freakin' conspiracy!!!!! :hmmm:

Well, I hope they enjoy it. Using the GF-9191 or 9292 as a refrenece of 10, that Wards box sound like about a 6... There was a reason why I stepped up back then. It's all good....

I've got a Sanyo M9996K that I just got in. A much better way to spend $30, despite the nostalgia... Back in 1980, I'd have much rather had the Sanyo vs. the Wards. :-D

Wow John thats messed up you didn't get it!

Man you should have placed a much higher bid just to throw off other bidders.

I usually use this method and it works and most of the time it does not even get to the bid price I have placed.

Juan, I'm really okay with not geting it.... I kinda thought my price was already way high enough... Consider that If two people are going for something and use your strategy, then the price can get really ridiculous and the winner ends up paying way more than they really wanted to. That's dangerous ground!

And for more than $25 or $30 it really isn't a box worth having. Even with the nostalgic aspect considered. Add shipping and its a $50 investment. If it were a shiny GF-9292, which was my "REAL" boyhood boomer, then my attitude might have been different.

Others of these will come (although it might take another 3 years) and I'll win one for $9.99. :-D

Time is on my side.
