Perhaps I should add a Pioneer to my collection... :hmmm:

Hey Mono. It really is a pretty good sounding boombox. It's not too large or heavy to carry around but feels solid/well-built and the best part -- can get very loud and sound terrific. I say, go for it! My only suggestion is to rebelt these on a regular basis. If you see any hint of impending belt failue -- STOP. Because if the belts fail, then the decks locks up and I have NOT found a way to crack this one without risking breaking the cassette door.

You know, as much as I'd like all of my boxes to have a fully working tape deck, and with all the tapes that I made and still have, I very rarely play tapes.

For me, the only reason for me to play a tape is if I were walking around with a box and didn't want an iPod connected to it.

Regardless, there's a different and smaller Pioneer model I've had my eyes on for a hot minute.

Cripes, Norm! She looks beautiful!!

I love my SK-550, and really love the geometric style design.
In red though, like you say, the whole personality is changed!

I'm very interested to try out Blu's siuggestion for ink-stamps for the lettering too!
This was the only thing holding me back from a couple of projects like this.

One more suggestion for the SK-550: super bright PINK LED for the dial light!!

Love your work Norm, you're a constant inspiration!

Rock On.

I'm way ahead of you Glue. I was sort of rushing to complete this near the end and the original dial light is still there. My plan is to convert to LED, and light from both ends rather than one end as original. The color hasn't been decided on yet but pink LED's do not exist so I think it's either gonna be amber or red, to match the warm color of the shell. I still have some details to work on inside so that was my plan. Then the color scheme will be consistent and complete. My maroon M70 is 70% re-capped and then the dial lamps will be redone on that baby too. I'm thinking of "warming up" that area too.

Hi Jeff. THANKS! Yep. The grills were straightened and painted to better expose the speakers beneath. I like the results. The new color combination works out nicely.
