I almost bought the Black 550! But I wanted the silver color,so I bought a new PC-55JW on sale for 599.00 down from 699.00! Heck when that first black 550 was around prices at that smaller shop were like 799, & 999.00 for the 550!😮🎶🎼📻

I thought the same thing. Why go through the added expense of two different constructs of the same speaker? From a business sense this doesn't make sense at all.

Perhaps they had two different points during production where they redesigned the line slighlty for some reason? I never checked the build date of both boxes TBH. That's the only thing I could imagine...
