We need some excitement ,right?!
How about some of the heaviest, most powerful 3-pieces going at it,a sound off!!!

(1) Panasonic Rx-C-300
(2) Sony FH-7II
(3) Sharp GX-88!!
(4) Telefunken Stuido 1M
(5) JVC PC-55C

These are scary units, the Sharp GX-88 I do remember draws 160 watts and there was someone here who had one and he put new woofers in it,high end ones and if I remember right it was breaking some new DB decimal levels!!
The Sony FH-7II goes without question as does the Telefunken!
The Panasonic is rare and very powerful!! Norm could chime in on this one I bet.
If anyone has 2 or more of these let’s do this sound off!!

My vote is the Panasonic RX a2 .

In.my opinion the rxc100 will dust the rxc 300 and the fh7.

I think Craig/NZBoom might have replaced the speakers in his gx88.

I'll second Rimmer's choice. The JVC PC-55 is a powerhouse in a tight chassis and one of the best decks in a boomer

I'm currently giving my PC-55 a clean and rebelting. Getting to the deck was insane, took me about 2hrs to work it out. Seems to have fired up good. The transformer inside is insane. Mostly unpleasant getting at it too.

I agree. I've done some work on the 55 and 550's deck and if you have pudgy fingers, you're in trouble and yes that transformer is INSANE!

I agree the PC 55 is a ****ing monster power wise it'll hang with anything there is but the damn speakers let it down.

You will never see a boombox as densely packed inside as the PC 55 , it has to have the most shlt ever crammed into anything.

Here’s the specs Floyd!
PC-55JW 87 watts draw. 27.5 wpc.!!
PC-55C 93 watts draw. 27.5 woc.!! They are special!

I do wish we could have someone here that has 2-3 of these do a comparison!

And yes the Sharp GX-88 is so rare!! I bet it hangs with the best especially hearing about the member that upgraded his woofers!!😮😮😊😎🎼🎶🎼

Now that you say that.
I picked up a pair of PC550 speakers about a year or so ago. I tried them on my 55 and yes, they didn't quite sound as good. Was awhile ago so I might try again just to check.

The speakers are different, JVC went with a less robust woofer and tweeter on the 550.

The actual box itself is pretty much the same.

On paper (the manuals) the speakers are identical however in profile the 550's are slightly shallower which is surprising seeing as both were built along side each other. Perhaps another facility was contracted to build the 550's but that really wouldn't make sense given the identical nature of both

Just for the record the 55 does sound a tad bit bass heavier.

You mean the 550 is not as deep, front to back?

Not exactly. If I understand your question Reli, the cabinet is the same depth. If you were to remove the speakers and lie both woofers down on their face, there is a subtle yet noticeable height (depth) difference in each one. The magnet to floor height is the same, but the ceramic cones have a subtle difference in height and angle... It blew my mind when I saw the difference.

From a business sense this made no sense whatsoever.
