Goes to show once again that the real answer to, "What is my boombox worth?" is "Whatever someone is willing to pay." Friendly advice: If anyone here ever decides to write a boombox price guide, forget it!
The old adage that a boombox is truly only worth what someone who wants one is willing to pay is the only consistent rule.
Actually, when Bobby said it went for what it did I was thinking thats not bad at all! A member here paid a lot more for one (including shipping from .au to u.s) earlier this year.
I always thought I'd need about 500 to get an 880.. with shipping from overseas to.au I wouldn't be far off the mark!
so much has to do with the timing --
like --i cant remember seeing an 880 in any condition on usa ebay
for at least 1/2 year --
so - thems that bid 'way too high'
were not prepared to wait another 6 months to forever---
for the next 880
It really seems like there is NO guild lines. No blue book, NO way to tell, predict or plan for what any of these will sell for. I'm not even sure what that means.
But one thing is for sure, who ever won that action is more of the "I'm going to win it at any cost" type of person, then a collector making an informed decision because they liked, wanted or needed those parts! (Christ I hope my wife didn't win that!)
**Disclaimer: If I offended the person who bought that, sorry**
Also, that makes me wonder if all the hype around that model both here and at S2G, especially all the talk surrounding Ralf's supercharged-modded one that runs with nine C-cell Nickel-Cads. Could all of that hype have maybe helped bump up the value of the 880 as well...?
When did an M90 sell for under $400??? Did that happen while I was gone last week?
The price does not surprise me at all. That is a rare box that does not come up often. To some people $300 is pocket change. All depends on the bidder and how bad he wants it. This is one hobby where prices are impossible to gauge. It went much higher than I expected though...go figure....
That is Driptip's (aka) Patron's CS880.
I asked him abut it before the auction and he said I could buy it and he said yes,he wanted $350.00 shipped.
I quickly declined as I thought that was a crazy price. :annoyed:
Now I guess I know its crazy.......... :judge: :dots:
I missed one a few weeks ago for $250. I asked the seller if they would take $250 and put a buy-it-now on the auction and call me if they did so. I went outside to mow the lawn, came back in to check my email, they said yes and switched it to buy-it-now, I went to buy it and it was sold. They never called me. Some lucky bastard out there has in now. :'-(
