That Denon is really cool looking :surf:

I've seen that Marantz a few times, how does it sound?

If you like hi-fi 3-pieces, you should keep your eye out for a Grundig Party Center 2000, it is a beautiful system with a great tuner and a 3-motor deck.

Haha! nice one Shane.

Reli: The party centre is on the list! The little Marantz sounds amazing for it's size, very big and rich sound from a well designed unit.
She's got a hit lit up EQ too:

And very sleek deck.

I was looking at trading her a while back, but didn't ge tmuch interest. She's nice enough to hold onto.

Rock On.

There's no way in hell the above Hitachi is as loud as a C100!

I've no idea what this 9100 looks like, but am eager to learn!

I just picked up a 9100 for my daughter for under $50 bucks, and it was just serviced with new belts. They are not exaggerating, it's loud as hell for it's size.

i used to own a trk9100,they sound not good,no bass at all, very cheap bass speakers, very tinny boxy hollow bass sound and very high distortion.that is my honest opinion and true of this boombox, sorry :-/

Location: Perth, Western Australia I have done some test and the Conion wins (thank f..k for that)
conion had a peak db of 124.3 and an ave 117.1
trk9100 had a peak db of 121.9 and an ave 115.3
9494 had a peak db of 117 and an ave 109
777 had a peak of 116 and an ave 109.4
jc 2000 had a peak 117.4 and an ave 112.9
so if a disco robo has an advertised db of 109 and all my reading are similar on the disco robo
this Hitachi is great value for $20-$50 and is not light

so my story ends
with we can not always take thing on face value (it looks shiat there for it must be )
so buy up everything u see for one day you mite find a winner

I have a nice one of these and can confirm that they are surprisingly loud.
Can't compare it to a C100 as I don't own one, sadly :-P

It's not a 'heavyweight' loud more of a 'shouty' loud is how I would describe it;
doesn't distort easily which means the higher volumes sound fairly good without the sound becoming 'muddled' and losing its way.

punchy bass, not a huge amount of it and no real 'boom' but still reasonable.
Nice clear treble and mids and nice sounding tape deck, also records well on chrome tape (TDK SA-90).

I'd say these are worth getting for definite, but I only paid 25 quid for mine and wouldn't (personally speaking) pay more than about 40 for a good example.

There's a Chinese resturaunt I go to in my travels that has that hitachi. I have tried to get her to part with it for years. She won't budge . I have offered her a newer radio cash . Finally I just gave up. It sounds alright and has been constantly in use since it was new. I am sure it's covered in grease as well.
