that's why they're so expensive because everybody wants them in their classic cars you wouldn't believe the price of car cassette players like Alpine and Kenwood and JVC they've shot through the roof.
Of course. That makes absolutely perfect sense.
I still remember underdash Craig Power Plays and Pioneer Super Tuners. (Not quite sure about the Pioneers being under dash.) I even remember the a.m. stereo experiment. Man, I'm old. : )

that's the way it should be. I see you're from Pennsylvania I spent some time up there I had friends up there but most of them were gone now unfortunately old age got the got the better of them. I went to the Maple festival up in meyersdale Pennsylvania a few times I loved it got to eat a lot of good pancakes and eat real maple syrup. I visit up there regularly around Cumberland and West Virginia but I've been known to go up wellersburg mountain up to Pennsylvania on my motorcycle. oh by the way I live in Maryland about 1 hour from DC.
Sounds like fun times! I know the D.C. and Northern Va. area somewhat. 68 to 73, I spent summers in Sterling Va. with my brother and his wife while he was in the Army at Ft. Campbell. Went to DC a lot. Right past Vint Hill Farms radio installation. Went past Fort Meade once iin MD.

Welcome! Most boomboxes have useless shortwave bands, they don't pick up anything besides the time signal at 10 MHz
To get a decent shortwave tuner you should stick to the late 70s models. Quality went downhill after that.
Also the models sold here in the US often just had AM/FM, and they sent other versions with 4-band tuners to Europe.
JVC M70 has a good quality tuner and great sound, but they cost anywhere between $300 to 800

For sure, the Capitol beltway is nuts! In 1972, thumbed a ride onto the beltway in a Hemi Cuda. We hit 130 mph! Lol

Thank you! Yes, the M79 - er, M-70 is out of my reach. The G.E. boxes of the late 70's reputedly have great a.m. tuners. The f.m. on my 70's Panasonic RS 466 is great, but I can't seem to find an AFC (haven't really looked hard yet), it drifts like an iceberg, and the a.m. is a joke. Sounds nice, though.

Most JVCs had very good tuners, like the RC-838 but those are expensive. The RC-828 is cheaper.
You could also look for an M50, RC-656, or RC-727

The best stock SW reception I get is on my JVC M70L.
The key is a very long antenna wire. This 7-meter model I own wll turn a shitty radio into a great one, if your external antenna jack is 3.5mm mono.
