Clean the record bar well and push it down many times, this can sometimes help with a squeal or howl. Also it could be a bad ground, kind of sounds like that it could be that. Good luck,I have one of these also.😎
You will have to go through that 9292 and clean every switch/slider and really get into that record bar as I carries the power to so many components. I scored a roadside 9696 (same deck etc) a while back and it was almost completely inoperable. After doing the above maintenance, full function was restored - they are a very durable series of boomboxes.
Ahhh, thank you for the tip on the record bar! I have it all in pieces again, so it's easy to get to now. I went through everything else pretty well, but haven't touched that yet. I'll give it a shot!
I did find a few caps that look suspect, but not so bad that I'd expect them not to work. Sure worth cleaning that record bar before I start trying to de-solder old caps.
Yeah! You guys are the best! That did it! Working GREAT now! Still one pesky switch that won't clean up as well as I'd like, but I'll just keep at it with the cleaner. Tape deck sounds super! I really appreciate the advice! You guys nailed it!
The GF-9292 was my first "real" boombox back in the day! I have one now as well. Fantastic looking and sounding units. Congrats and good luck with the rebuild!
