Hello from California

Hello. I'm Shawn. Joined here because I have a boombox that needs repair. Was hoping that people who are boombox fans would know where I could get it repaired. Panasonic RX-C60. Has sentimental value to me. Only one repair shop near me in the High Desert, and he won't touch it because he can't find a repair manual. Attempted to contact shops in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles areas, and can't get any responses. I'm not new to electronics repair, done some minor repairs on dome stereo recievers, and also on a Sony CFD-610 that I have. But this Panasonic I don't want to mess up anymore than it is.

So will they work on it if you provide a service manual? There are copies here, here and here. Scroll down on the first link to find a PDF download link; the second link needs you to login but it's free; and the last one isn't free but it will be very high quality. If you truly have just a C60 and not a C60F or C60LS, the third link is what you need, although I imagine they would all be close enough to help fix anything wrong with it.

That was his excuse, but in the conversation I had with him, it honestly sounded more like he wasn't interested in working on a boombox. I'd like to find someone who has a known history and reputation for repairing boomboxes specifically.

Your best bet is to approach older guys in beat-up strip malls who say they repair TVs, VCRs, DVD players, stuff like that. Especially in heavily immigrant neighborhoods. Like the two shops I told you about. Guys like that have been fixing things for 30-40 years, so they were fixing boomboxes and tape decks back in the day, but they don't say so anymore because they figure no one cares. But they will still do it.

Don't bother with any of the "vintage hifi" guys. They'll turn you down.

You won't be able to find someone who advertises that he works on boomboxes. Your best bet is to approach older guys in beat-up strip malls who repair TVs, VCRs, DVD players, stuff like that. Especially in heavily immigrant neighborhoods. Like the two I told you about.

I'll check them out. they are a bit of distance from me, but not too far.

Welcome aboard, Shawn!

Go ahead and post in the Panasonic Tech Talk section and describe the problem(s). Somebody here might be able to tell you exactly how to fix it.
