Hey There and Welcome to the site!!!
You have a great looking M-70.
The M-70 is well cherished around here.
I personally have had 4 throughout the years.
I would say if you are mechanically inclined to
take the back off the radio and try to switch the function
switch manually you can diagnose weather the problem
is a dirty switch or a bad switch assembly.
If it works fine by bypassing the top switch and lever bar assembly that operates the actual switch
then its the switch assembly . If not its a dirty switch. You can find Deoxit at Radio Shack.
I personally use the type with the lubricant.
Here is a picture of the M-70 undressed. the triangular lever bar assembly is what operates the actual switch.
I believe you can access the switch through the hole in the circuit board.
The function switch at the top always tends to be wobbly and they do get worse with age they develop a bit of play.
You may be able to correct this as well it is not impossible.

...welcome aboard!!...the M70 is my absolute favorite box (just check my avatar)....it sounds like your problem may be the little bearing inside the switch that locks the switch in its chosen notch. When you take it apart to spray it check and see if the bearing is locking into place when you move the switch up and down...good luck!!

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I'll try to fix it in the coming week.

Wish me luck

i must agree with hemi guy,

try to open it,

see if works well by turning the switch by hand ( remember all the initial positions of the levers etc )

spray it with compressed air, or clean with a small brush,

a very small one, a cottons swab maybe.

try de oxit.

turn it back and forth couple of times, slowly,

avoid too much de oxit.

check if it did any better.

i believe it will work then.

ie: my band selector on my hitachi was functioning badly also,

i could not engage SW and MW correctly, sometimes it would not work.

I did what i described to you and voila.

:super:

Well I took the back off and saw how the triangular plastic lever moved something behind the PCB board but I didn't want to
take that up so I just tightened everything back and it seems to work a little better now.

The place that I would have to put the Detoxit would be very far inside and I don't want to get that far in right now.

Will see how it goes.....

Thanks for all the tips and an interesting look at a hobbie I did not know even existed
