Wow it looks great :w00t: Are belts fine ? All Toshibas that have reached to me have had disintegrated belts, all 3 of them :-D

Nice work i must admit
Thanks mate, appreciate the comments. I'm not sure on the belts yet, I've just acquired some cassettes to run through the deck so I'll post my findings......

So, having tested the tape deck, it's busted :-( It spools too fast, with no audio output what so ever. FF / REW seem to work, as does auto reverse. Could this be a belt or clutch issue, or both ?? Seems like a tricky mech to get to as well - when I open the front of the unit, the mech is in a box of it's own attached to the front panel. Hmmmm....

Actually the last comment is not strictly accurate. The tape mech is not sealed inside a box, it's actually quite accessible with the removal of a few screws and plates. The CD player is contained within a plastic shell, which is not surprising I suppose !! I should be able to get a better look at the tape side once I brave opening it up again (the sliders on top are a bugger to get back on again in the right positions)

Cheers

Anyone got any ideas or tips about how to replace the antenna on this Toshiba box ? It's completely missing and I've been listening to radio a bit more recently so it would be good to have it up and running again. Cheers.

Antenna problems?
:morepics:
Lol, yeah, like it's gone. That's a problem ! The bit that sticks out of the casing which allows the antenna to swivel is still there but the 'mast' has vanished. Any ideas if I could retro-fit one off another box or buy one new form somewhere ?

I've just carried out the very same transplant between a couple of Panasonics.

What I never expected (my first antenna transplant) was finding out there are TWO tiny little washers that fit one each side on the inner sides the antenna base (swivel bit/stump), they fit between the antenna base and the telescopic part - don't lose them! This is a particularly fiddly job trying to line up all the apertures so I inserted a toothpick first followed by a thick needle in the lined up apertures prior to inserting the screw. Of course, as soon as I pulled out the toothpick, the washers dropped out of line!

Tip 1: Apply a little light oil to the antenna contacting parts and the washers, this prevents slipping.

Tip 2: Applying a diagonal pressure between the male & female parts when assembling all the parts together will also help prevent the washers slipping out of line.

Oh, and patience is the name of the game!

Good luck

Sweet, thanks for the info. I've just ordered a drive belt for the tape deck too so hopefully the Toshiba will be (almost) fully functional soon :-)

New belt fitted and reassembled. I'm just curious whether the playback speed is slow so I've asked in the Tech section.
