To answer a few questions/comments:
-unfortunately, we have no decent radio stations here in Vancouver.. I can't begin to imagine how cool 80's radio in NYC must have been!
-It took about 130 D batteries (mercury free) to power our fleet of boomboxes, but at 50c apiece, it wasn't insanely expensive. And they were actually decent batteries, and should last for another couple of parties we're hoping!
-We have a link on our website http://www.decentralizeddanceparty.com to the transmitter we use (the WW FM Transmitter).
If you scroll down a few clicks you can see the blue banner ad for it on the right hand side.. it's a great, reasonably-priced, battery-powered transmitter and if you click the link on our site before buying we'll get a small commission, which would really help to offset our battery costs!
If any of you guys can recommend a good place to find more boomboxes in the Vancouver, BC area or have any to donate, we're always looking for more and will put them to good use!
hey man why not do a live electronic music show with boomboxes as the pa along.
i have been kicking this idea around for a while. i dont know i think it could be cool as long as the cops didnt come and shut it down.
nothing to fancy. just some simple groovebox based tracks . the groove box could just have the transmitter hooked up to it and the boomboxes could just brodcast the sound. could be interesting to find some live pa guys into doing it. i think it would be cool.
your right about radio here. what can you do.
you want to find boomboxes cheap here in the city. its getting harder to do that now.
my best advice is to get up really early on a saturday and drive all the thrift stores between here and hope.
the twawassen hospice gets some nice ones sometimes.
i usally try not to pay more than twenty bucks for the ones i get. i get some pretty nice ones too.
