Got it all back together today.
I ended up painting the passive a gunmetal grey with a lime green ring.
What do you think?

I had extra 1mm aluminium passives cut so i can revert to the brushed aluminium look for the passive if i so desired.

I'll take some photos in the sunlight on the weekend.

What do I think? I think it looks awesome!
Very cool touch on the passive, as well. I'd leave it. If you ever let it go, the next "keeper" can bring it back to factory if they so desire.

Don't change anything Scott. You now have a truly unique AIWA - the only one in the world with that cool colour combo!

It's quite inspiring seeing all these custom boombox projects lately. ;-)

Well done,

James... :-)

Fantastic, Scotty!
Very clean, looks great. My only suggestion would be to perhaps
continue the green on the cassette deck door, behind the clear.
Top work all round though, and I might need to pick up one of those radiator
discs off you soon too!

Rock On.

I might take your advice re: deck door. I might have to darken the green on it though to better match the resultant colour of the lime green seen through the grey grille. Your thoughts?

Depends if the door perspex is smoked or not. I just looked at mine and it seems 'clear' but until you put a colour behind it you can't really tell.

Or you could get some perspex and make your own one in a smoked colour to darken it.

Paint some card or something and stick it inside and see how it looks, I reckon.

Good luck!

Rock On.

Wow, don't know how I missed this thread, but that Aiwa turned out amazing! I wasn't really digging the green until I saw it behind the grille. Very unique. Great job!

For the passive reflector, did you refoam the back? I need to refoam my reflector, trying to figure out what to use.

I ended up using some packaging foam i had lying around. I just cut a circle out about an inch thick and stuck it on the back of the aluminium. Didn't get a photo unfortunately.
