175 boxes!
And you live in Finland!
Where do you get yours!? Been looking in Sweden but found nothing like the ones you got there!
Amazing!
I think there must be more boxes available in Sweden than here in Finland?? In Finland we have mainly Philips boomboxes available. The prices for better japanese models were too high for people in Finland in 80's because of the overall salaries in that time. I think there are only couple of SHARP GF-777 units in Finland. I heard a rumor that both been brought here by two guys who had been peacekeepers in somewhere in middle east in 80's. I bought the other one
I started collecting boomboxes with ELTA Masterblaster back in 2001.
It was a summertime and I had just moved to Tampere in Finland. I was walking in the city and passed a shop window. After about ten meters I started to wonder what the heck flashed in the corner of my eye in the store. Walked back and to check it out. WOW!!! I could not believe my eyes. The size of the device was extraterrestial
Rushed right in and bought that nearmint unit immidiately with 60 euros ($75). The shop was a pawnshop and as usual there was other electronics, quitars etc all over the place. But only one boombox: MasterBlaster of the Universe. I guess some really unhappy HIP-HOP guy had been forced to given it away for couple of euros. I believe he had been paid 10-20 euros for it.
I had never seen these heavy duty boomers before: big, black & cocky. I was impressed, even though I soon found out ELTA had pretty crappy tapedecks and many toy-like details and extras inthe overall design. I still have the unit and nice to have it as a first monolithic boombox in my set. Before this I had lust for a bigger boomer in 1986: SHARP WF-780. I tried to collect money for it for a VEEEEERYYYY long time to find out I never gonna afford it before 90's :'-( ..with a salary from a job as a paperboy.
After 2001 I have been wandering around a huge amount of second hand shops, antique stores, auctions and of course eBay to rescue boxes from end of 70's to late 80's. I love the design of electronics if they have good looks and other qualities included. I have also preserved my teenage Philips double-deck boombox (with self-painted Anthrax logos on the grills
and my hi-fi Aiwa 5-freq-equalizer walkman with remote control from 1985/86.
Good luck with your collection!!! It certainly takes space and time, but surely worth waiting for.
