UPDATE!
Spent my afternoon rebelting the VZ-3000 turntable, which took a grand total of 5 hours work with all the disassembly, and she sound WONDERFUL! These record players features are just awesome. Going to record some albums to tape tonight and see how that side of her holds up. Will report back with more as I experiment!
