Thanks everyone!
I love the sound this thing puts out.
I got this from Spud and never got to hear it's full potential as the woofer foams blew out the first time I cranked it up,LOL! :dunce:
I think It sounds a lot like like a JVC PC55 / PC550 imho. :hmmm:

skippy i would venture to say that these pioneers where a direct competitor to the 4 piece jvc's of the same era , the pc 55 is no joke, but those big ass pioneer ck series compo's can bring the pain on so many levels  .

skippy it looks like the ck 5 has two way speakers with a port in the front ? ,just wondering i like to know these things :-D .

Hey Floyd that's awesome work!!! that radio looks smokin hot! Can this "free edge" be done to any woofer? Or would it put the woofer out of it's limits? Can this be done to a "W" edge surround? Please let me know. I'd like to do it to a couple of boxes! Let me know if it's possible.

you have to be careful not to allow the stroke of the cone to exceed the xmax parameters ,this is the maximum up and down stroke of the cone also known as cone excursion .

also the suspension has to be tight enough to control the cone without restricting the cone movement ,or this will cause an increase in impedence of the voice coil meaning it will put a bigger load on the amp because the cone is harder to move due to the stiffness of the suspension .

then there are 3 types of speakers to consider .

1.sealed acoustic suspension.
2. ported or bass reflex type.
3. free air which most boxes have ,meaning infinite baffle where the speakers are mounted to the front of the case or isolated where the front and back sound waves cannot cancel each other out.

in short as long as the new foam is somewhat close to the factory operating specs of the speaker you should be fine , if you need help choosing the right foam just let me know , i would have to see the type of speakers and foams you are interested in using .
