this box has been torturing me since i got it off epay long, long ago. I put so much time and yet neve got it working. i finally decided decided to get it over with. I stripped it down, cleaned the hell out of it, repatched up the board that was damaged in shipping, replaced the amp chip, then put the old amp chip back (since the new one didn't change the dead left channel) and threw on some paint. and now she's working 100%. Finally. I guess the channel issue was multifold, broken traces plus bad solder on the amp chip. And it now sounds awesome and looks pretty darn good. God thats a relief.

Glad to here about the success. It looks great, I have yet to hear a vintage Aiwa box. :-/
Is there an other version of that box with different grills?

thanks a lot guys  , it is a great sounding box with that DSL. this one was very satisfying precisely because it was such an enormous PIA for almost 2 years. i really almost smashed about 10 times. so i guess it was lesson in perseverance for me. i came, got pissed, got pissed, got pissed etc. etc 20X . and finally conquered
