I think these guys have given you a great list! I think if you go through this thread, compile all these models into one big list and hit eBay UK you should be able to wrangle something out!

Of course I HAVE TO say that the Lasonic TRC-920 would be your best bet! :-D :-D (Thank you
monchito for already mentioning it!)

But the reality is, I bet that would be a hard radio to find in the UK.

Past all that, like some others here, I have never owned a JVC M70, but every thread you read on here just goes on and on about them and they seem to be readily available (maybe a little pricey) but for shear build quality, you can never go wrong with JVC or Sharp.

Good luck and please put the out come!!!! WITH PICTURES!

Well now that you mention a Lasonic I have to add the 918 to my list as well. We usually only think of the big black boxes when Lasonic is mentioned but they put out some great classic boxes like the 918 and 920.

agree about the 918 and the 920 -
and if we throw exciting looks into the equation -
-the 920 is a serious
contender :-) :-)

That's such a SWEET looking radio! How is the sound? I would buy that even if it sounded like Cr@p!

Thanks for all the responses guys. So many boxes, such little time!!!! I probably should have mentioned that I'm lucky enough to own an M70 and a sanyo m9994k (the latter of which is my favorite box on the planet). I would love (love, love) to get my hands on a Lasonic but it's probs not going to happen for a while due to $200 postage costs from the US. I have to admit I'm a big fan of the gf9494 but my decision is far from made so any other thoughts or suggestions are welcome :-D :-D :-D

well if a m70 counts as a midsize box then my answer would be as many have stated.
in someways i kind of think of the m70 as the ac cobra of boomboxes.
the m90 would be the king cobra.
the m70 is extremely loud for its size and man does it ever have a nice radio reciever for a boombox.
:agree:

M70 all the way.

:-D For me it has to be:
Panasonic RX-5150
JVC M70
Sharp GF-8989
Lasonic 920
Sanyo 9990-9994-9996 and the 9998.
Aiwa 660
Mega Teck

Dang it Freddie your right the Blockbuster is also an excellent mid size box, this is what I mean by it's practically impossible to have just one fav. With so many different ways to judge there isn't one box that is the best at everything, we're talking sound, looks, features, tape deck performance, battery life, etc.

All this talk about M70's and I forgot about the GE's. If you like the Blockbuster you will love the GE 6000/6035. It doesn't have the Blockbusters looks but will outperform it in every way and is much easier to carry.... :-D

I would say....

As already mentioned, the M70 is just incredible,

also..... the Sharp 9191 - Classic looks and lashings of warm vintage sounding boom.

The Pioneer SK-353 - Very refined and smooth sounding

The Sharp 8989 - Street tuff, shiny and pretty, and crisp clean sound.

The Hitachi TRK-9100 - Underrated thumping machine with a good array of features and cool led VU's.

i'll have to disagree about the (wonderful) jvc m70 as 'mid-size', because it's quite big!
a better choice that also sounds great and is smaller is jvc's rc 656 - a great dolby tape deck in a compact box, with good tuner too. or even jvc m60 ;)
also, what about sony cfs65?
or sanyo's m9970? this is as small as a full-sounding 2-way 4-speaker b'box can be, and with unusual coaxial speakers :surf:
and the m9970, rc656 and cfs65 are all about the same mid-size :hmmm: (each of them fitted perfectly into one gym bag i liked ;)

The M70 is generally considered the large end of the mid size range by many collectors but of course that's all subjective because what I consider mid you may consider large.

Drooling over that box Vienna!

I have to chime in on the Crown CSC-950. It's just a gorgeous boombox. Even tho it is a "single-ended" amp, it will go loud and has a very detailed crisp sound. Not very deep in the bass, but you probably won't miss it. A great box for rock and synth-pop. Love those 10 LED/channel meters!

The 950 always makes me smile when I see it. It has been known to turn a bad day into a good one.

You guys know how I feel about the M70. :smooch:

:agree: The Rising 20/20 is too big to be mid-sized!

The Sanyo Big Ben(MX960k). It's not very wide :'-( But it's just as high as it is wide. And what amazing sound, and the strongest FM reception of all my boomboxes :-)
