This is a small mono box it should be simple, so the engineers were either drunk or just wanted to F with people?
I forget exactly where it gets crazy. I think (but don't remember for sure) you have to lift the tape drive, as well as the main PCB. The "box" for the internal batteries can be seen without doing all this, but to get the battery box top off and lift out the old batteries, requires quite a bit of disassembly. You'll end up with eight to ten different sized screws.
I DO remember cursing the engineers. Funny you should mention.
I also remember thinking the engineers didn't want anyone replacing those batteries. They wanted you to buy a new radio! :annoyed:
Your GE appears to be pretty minty. Just be patient, you'll get it done. It's a mono, yes, but it is surprisingly full inside.
