"I got it in 1979 and never played it"

OK so you paid the equivalent of $1000-1200 in today's dollars for a radio, but then never used it ONCE. Yeah, right.

It he never used it, it would still be in its plastic wrapper. If he removed the wrapper only recently, in order to test it, he would have said so. But he didn't.

I'm tired of clowns like this. Claiming NIB just because they have the original box.

Don't know why you guys are so suprised. A "supposed" NIB unit sold a couple years back, on eBay, for over (or near) a grand , USD if IIRC. I was bidding on it and lost. Most NIB boomboxes are small entry level stuff, so having a chance to buy a nice top (or near) of the line box is a rare opportunity.

I do agree with Reli though, that this radio is NIB is highly unlikely. Not only is it missing the plastic storage bag which is important to prevent oxidation of the BOOMBOX but it doesn't have the demo tape either.

Perhaps he can use a better camera.
Exactly. You want someone to open the wallet and plunk down the big bucks, photos showing greater detail is a must. Nobody wants to guess with their hard earned moola.

It's just so incredibly conceited for someone to think they can ask hundreds of dollars for an item, without providing a full description, confirming that they've checked each function.

And it doesn't take much intelligence to know that you should photograph a radio with its lights on, including the stereo light since the stereo lock often goes bad on these old units. And also have a photo showing the tape deck running.

When someone buys it, it'll be "new to them," in the box. Just a play on words.

It's old used stock. No original deck cling. No demo tape. It's been well kept. I would say excellent condition. But not near worth this kinda bread.

Why would the owner put it against a plugged in coffee pot?

"Ive kept this boombox safe for 35 years. Today I took it out of the box for the first time, and it heated up to a boil with no issues."
