How is the Clean Girl doing? Is she singing?
No nothing yet. Nothing coming through the headphones either.
Could be the amp chip
That’s what I’m thinking or something on that board. I’m not going to be opening her up till the weekend.

Id be interested in knowing how you single out and test whether it's the amp chip of not
Lol.... purely on a gut feeling!(plus Docs thinks the same) I’m probably way off though. Who knows, but there’s no crackling or fizzing or static, just a serene silence!
The front cover comes off with the speakers and cables. I do have another working one here so will swap the fronts over to see what happens over the weekend.

Interesting to see what you find, if you can just swap in a spare then your good to go

Well, that cleaned up very nicely indeed, it's a pity about the issue(s) you've found so I hope these will prove to be an easier fix rather than a longer term issue.

Good luck! .

Thanks Christine. I was dealing with two boxes over the weekend. I found another nice RX-5250 and that was done first and went pretty well. The Akai was filthy and I figured that after a decent clean in and out that it might coax some sound out of it.
Alas it wasn’t the case so I closed it up as I was done mentally with boxes at that point. I’ll revisit it at another time but for the moment it’s just a nice looking paperweight!

No bubble bath pictures? :-/

It sure cleaned up nicely. I love those multi-colored LEDs!

I would check the PC board for any breaks or bad solder joints. I had the same problem with the Jap version of GF9696. LED VUs work and all, but no sound. I bought it in like new cosmetic condition, very cheap and took the challenge to fix it. It was a bad solder joint. ~Royce

I would love to get ahold of one if those Akai boxes of that layout, they look so cool and so very unusual to me. 😁

Clicked on this thread for different reasons (ie. thread title  )....but was pleasantly surprised, albeit for different subject matter.

Beautiful resto Rudey. Give yourself a pat on the back. That Akai looks and sounds like new!
