Anybody ever pull a dent out of a chrome dustcap? Sure sounds easy, but I'm pretty sure it's not. I haven't ever seen one done. There seems to be a lot of info here on painting them or replacing them, but popping one out? Not so much.

For an example, these I don't want to change 'cause they look & sound magnificent. Love that bronze color. They just are, well, dented.

i have seen people using cans of compressed air to pop dents out of cars . might work , might not .

No go on the vacuum cleaner, my dyson only has 1 speed. Pretty good, though. Just not enough.

My next step was to try to heat the cap up with a blow dryer from the side so as not to make the dent worse, thinking that might soften it up enough to pop out.

Total Catastrophic Failure. Needs a new cap, now. Oh, well. Now I have one that needs to be replaced. Luckily it was the worse sounding one of the two. Gonna need the grills for these 2 now.

Time to finish re-capping the other set and get them going. They don't have that bronze color, though.

Merde. :-/

I would try putting a small piece of tape on there and pulling it back gently

If that doesn't work, there is a girl at my local bar everyone calls "Vacuum" she might be able to help you! :-P

I ordered 1 of these 261668060623 from Hong Kong. Not the right exact size, but a little larger should be ok. Not chrome, but beggars can't be losers, er, choosers. This 140750591406 should get them to stay on.

Yeah, that's the ticket. :annoyed: Pretty pissed, right now. Should have seen that f up coming. Going too fast again. :nonono:

never use heat on dust caps , i efed up a set that way . somebody needs to invent a tiny plunger like for a toilet that you can pop these dents out with.

Minuscule pin with 90 degree hook but then you
have a very small hole which could be touched up
with a very small drop of silver paint.
It's the cheaper method but may be better than a
dented cap.
It worked for me once.
And don't listen to that Skippy guy!!(lol) Vacumn
cleaner!! Don't use a Kirby or Dyson you won't have
a speaker left,just a metal basket!!(lol) :0
Good luck!!

never put the vaccum hose right on the speakers , i use a toilet paper roll centered over the dust cap and then apply vacuum to the other end while holding it all in place .

That's what I did, except I used a Maglite tube with the ends removed. Same thing, nothing. Then I hit it with the heat.

The dent started to come out on the side with the heat, but then the glue melted and voila! Sudden Catastrophic Failure. But things are better now. :-D

Put new capacitors (mylar vs ceramic, plus axial electrolytic) in the other set and I'm back up sounding better than ever. They used to sound dull, but are now bright as can be. Crispy as all get out! At least for a Tele Studio. When the new dust caps arrive, I'll have to come up with a way to make that set look all the same.

It's a never-ending battle. Some days, you get the barrel, some days, the barrel gets you...

My grandfather used to have a tiny plunger he used for his contact lens. I wonder if that would work
