when i looked at the pic i did noticed something that not sure if it was overlooked ,,, when you replaced the speakers the connection should have been toward the top just as the originals,, the connection tabs were facing toward the bottom instead of toward the top that there can interfere with the placement of the kenwood you were trying to install,,, it the speakers have the same depth and the magnets are simular size as originals then the connection tabs should face as the originals just to clear any obstruction behind it........ :-)

Oh yeah - that is true, good point. I put them on the bottom because of the words on the tweeter bezel that faces outward.... since they aren't vertical anyway I mind as well have them upside down...... I'll look into that, thanks!

Running it on batteries right now is keeping me satisfied - I will open it back up in a couple weeks, got other projects to get to for now. Thanks again!

Here it is over labor day weekend blasting away! Looked great and sounded even better. I love this box. I would recommend this boomer to anyone. It is a heavy hitter in the midsize category and can't imagine any others being more loud or clear than this one with the upgraded speakers. Besides the tape deck issues, it is a very good box. Great battery life too!

Hey there Blue Fuz,did you ever get the bugs worked out on your nice blue 550? Turn the once new Kenwoods right side up so the mains would work or was that not the problem? Enquiring minds want to know.☺

Nah. I take too long. Yours took days. I took months. Your power up problem may be related to the electrical smoke issue from your prior assembly. Maybe something burnt up. My first suspicion is the rectifiers in your power supply, which if memory serves correct, is on the left side. Maybe clearance issues with your speakers shorted them out.

Good copy though.

Here's mine again for those that forgot:

Link doesn't work! :bang:

I hope I can learn something from Norm's post on fixing the deck.

I never really worked on it again after getting the kenwoods in. I left it as a battery-only setup and just rocked it like that.

There are a bunch of links after a certain date that are now bad. Must have been some kind of site update that killed them.

That sounds good to me. Sometimes you just gotta leave well enough alone. By the way I didn't say it earlier but, you did a real nice job with the painting of the cabinet and the rings around the Kenwoods.👍👍
