Isn't that a 4640 without the handle? Respect due to the marketroid department at Soundesign for coming up with that concept.

5 Watts through speakers with an efficiency of 96db/Watt/M sounds louder than 50 Watts through speakers with an efficiency of 86db/Watt/M. It's not all about the power especially as the (paper) coil formers on most domestic speakers would actually melt at the sort of temperatures they'd reach if some of those massive numbers claimed for some boomboxes were real.

I'm not saying the RBM/Soundesign/Spinney/etc stereo in the O/P's link sounds good, but simply that it could be loud, the numbers are meaningless without hearing one.

Oops. I missed that one.

They're 8 ohms though.......
And as such are a much easier load since they'll barely cause the final A/F devices to break a sweat, which in turn makes them less likely to distort flat out than lower impedance speakers would. In practice, the speakers will sound just as loud since more of their range is usable.
At that level of efficiency, the SPL from a given signal at twice the impedance will be within a smaller number as a percentage than the difference in db/W.

None of which alters the fact that these speakers are open to the elements and have no visible means of control such as proper porting, so any bass output from these will probably sound like someone clapping along the inside of a shoebox with the back of a wooden spoon, or something even less tuneful such as the Binatone aka of the Sanyo C3 - whose best sound can be realised by throwing it from an upstairs window while recording and playing back the sound it makes as it falls, using a decent system.
Shame it's cubic and has no discernible round edges, or we could ask Chris to shoot at one until it dies. ;-)

Except that as Floyd said, it does look kinda cool, sometimes that's sufficient.

Boomus Fidelis
Frequency range only starts at 90Hz....so not exactly bass-monsters on the low end.

Would be a boring-looking system if it weren't for the LED meters.
