Worked on cleaning this beauty up today. Came out pretty kick A$$... Was easier than I thought to take apart, with a little help from madbadger's strip down PDF file :-). I really love this box, can't get enough of listening to my albums!!!! Check out my pics of strip down....

awesome work bill, too me this is the best BIG 1 piece box ,like the rolls royce of super huge boxes .

My local electronics repairman did warranty work for Sharp back in the day and the VZ2000 was the one he dreaded working on the most. According to him, due to their complexity, they would regularly come in for warranty claims.

Fastforward to today, one of his customers won a VZ2000 on ebay and took it to him for the usual belts, etc. He mistakenly only quoted $200 for a full service using genuine parts including new deck belts, LP belts, adjustments etc. He spent 5 hours working on it and was glad to see the end of it. Two weeks later, the same customer brought in another VZ2000 ebay find that required the same repairs!!! And guess what, only $200 for the full service including parts!! :sadno:

He has since officially retired from working on VZ2000s.

Looks great by the way Bill. Isn't it extremely satisfiying dismantling a box and giving all the dirty parts a nice, warm, soapy bath?!. Particularly if the dirt is the only thing holding a box back from looking mint!

James... :-)

Thanks guys, I just love this box. Floyd you are so right about this box ;-) And James believe it or not this was a pretty simple box to work on.

I did find out that 3 screws were missing and 1 post was broken but I managed to repair post and I found screws in my parts stash that worked perfect. Belts were new but I cleaned them with rubbing alcohol anyway.

no other box in this size range can approach the vz 2000 in overall quality . this thing is a tank and oozes class .

imagine the dc 7 it's heavier than the vz and built as nice but its a 3 piecer.

i love turntable boxes these are on a different level in my opinion.

Dude, amazing. I just can't believe how long it took you to get one.

Well they are rarer in states, plus condition and shipping scared me. Being able to see and hear it in person and pick it up was very cool and made me feel more comfortable :-)

You ain't kidding Floyd, this thing is heavy and I actually I like the build better than the GF767. Seems much sturdier too :-)

Well that's true about being rarer in the states. As you know we're swimming in them down in Oz. Good to see you happy (it's like falling in love all over again! :w00t: ) with the pickup! Def a good choice choosing the VZ over the 767.

I know what you are saying - people here say the VZ2000 is straightforward to disassemble/reassemble. My repairer is almost 80 years old though!! :-P

Nice work, Bill. The VZ is one of those boomboxes I think I would be afraid to work on. It just seems really intimidating.

I thought so to Bobby, but it was actually pretty easy. 4 screws hold tape deck in and it's a simple deck to rebelt, although belts were new on mine. I just wanted to clean it up and clean belts and tires with rubbing alcohol. Even the turntable is simple and easy to change belts. It is easier to have a helping hand when taking apart, someone to hold box and turntable in upright position!!!

The other nice thing is the fact the speakers are enclosed in separate boxes within unit for real rich sound :-)
I think the Sharp GF575 is same way, but not 100% sure because I've never opened mine ;-)
