And referencing the shining up nice from Ira...

I owe that from a certain product discovered in the very early 70's to keep classics in top notch shape... :-D

Hey Soopadoop!!! As far as Ira shining on his own....that's a personal matter. :w00t:

Can't do just one piecers. There are many from all types that could be considered grails. :-D

i would like to hear more of this kaboom you speak of. The modern stuff I've tended to ignore.
Perhaps you would consider a separate topic on what makes them so great?

Thanks ViennaSound

Back to the topic, what exactly are we going to do with this grail list, once it is finalized? :-)

The list won't be worth a flip. All it will do is give these zero-post lurker/sellers another excuse to call any boombox a "grail." :-/ Add Coby to the list if you want to have some real fun. :-D

One of the definitions of grail is "the object of any prolonged endeavor." There's no way that every single boombox collector would consider every model on that list a "grail" and certainly not a "holy grail." That's why the whole concept of "grail" was dropped at S2G. The boombox that is the object of YOUR OWN prolonged endeavor is YOUR grail and no one else's.

Just for the record, I have no desire to own:

Sharp VZ2000
Any boombox made by Lasonic
Helix Wheely
Sanyo M9994
Sanyo Big Ben
Toshiba WX1
Crown CSC950L
Crown SZ5100
Crown 850
Aiwa 770
Pioneer Discorobot
Pioneer SK909L
Philips Powerplayer
Panasonic National 7200 / 7700 / 7000

They are all on the list. However, these are not grails - for me.

I Am Legend
i also do not like the 'grail list' concept - :nonono:

its not real useful or accurate --at all
there are 100s of beautiful // quality boxes -- that hardly ever make anyones list :-O

if a new member without a big pile of box funds wanted to start a collection --
he/she might feel belittled - :sadno:
- to not be able to yet afford the boxes on the 'grail' list-

nor be right proud to post in our collections forum --
about any boxes they just got-- AND LIKE !!! --but did not 'make the list "

-------------------------------
from a sellers point of view --
lets say --i had a nice aiwa #950 --
and i KNOW it would make a great box for some smart member  ;-)

but -- its not on the LIST !!!
so --perhaps the customer would tend to avoid it = bad plan :-)

I agree with both of the BIG BOOMER BOOMBOX BOPPERS. I have models I love that NO ONE else cares about. Then there are lots of very popular models that does not and might never exist in my world.

It's a personal thing.

True!
Hate lurkers, some only want to make benefit with boomboxes... :annoyed:

Would someone please give a good definition for 'lurker' , and maybe an example?

A person that registers an account and "lurks" in the background never participating and becomes an information parasite, feeding off the host without a reciprical contribution.

I would like to offer up an addition to the definition of grail:

"A grail is a limited production ghettoblaster who's high demand spans multiple generations due to its unique characteristics."

In other words, more than "your" own generation would need to have an interest in it.

For example, Under this definition, a father and son team would have to come to agreement.

This agreement is more likely with an M90 :agree: :agree:
or a PANASONIC RX-5350 :agree: :agree:
than with a Sharp 9935 :agree: :nonono:

It also introduces potential new grails that we(as a generation) may be overlooking:
PANASONIC RX-DS790
Kaboom

panny 5350 needs to be there plus the sanyo 9998k sony cfs-77,99 .....

5350 is there. The panny section just needs to be reorganized like so:
panasonic national RX-5350 / RX-7000 / RX-7200 / RX-7700 /

I vote no for the cfs-77. Love the model, but it doesn't meet grail category.
-is not loud
-is cheap (25$ -150$)
-rarely talked about.
-seldom "compared" to other models

I vote we end this list of "grails".
Besides mine isn't even on the list.
