Cassette issue

Hello everyone. I’ve got an M90 C that I last used in the 90’s in very decent shape that has a tape with spooky music that played on Halloween for the kids. Now, the tape won’t eject and the button won’t depress. When turning the power off in cassette mode, it makes 2 clicks as if the heads were re setting. If I have to, I’ll take it apart but was wondering if there’s a trick to releasing the door. I’ll probably need to change the belts in any case though and the AM doesn’t work. Any ideas?

Sounds like the belts went out while the deck was in play mode , the heads are stuck in the up position and you basically have to remove the back casing then manually turn the main flywheel on the deck until the heads drop down. I usually use the eraser end of a pencil to turn the flywheel .

Thank you Floyd. Appreciate the advice. I know where to start now. Where would I find new belts?Would you have any suggestions why I don’t have AM reception? I just get a brief crackle when I hit the selector. The FM reception is super clear and strong. Thanks again!

It could be oxidation in the band selector switches . that and the main function switch. I've dealt with this problem before on the m 90.

If you click on forums in the drop box on the main page there are sub forums in the tech section for specific brand's and model boomboxes and it might contain information on belts and other useful information.

Keep in mind that tiny knob next to the band selector switches is the fine tuning knob for the SW and am bands only but it can help when trying to tune in the stations on SW and am bands.
