Cassette fine while in radio mode but...

Hello, I picked up a nice D8443 today and it sounds really nice. Problem is that the cassette will FF, rewind and play at normal speeds while the radio mode is selected but when I select cassette everything slows way down, then to a complete stop. This happens with or without a cassette inserted. It initially plays via cassette but not for long. It seems like a partial loss of power as the lights on the radio also dim a bit. Is this a problem anyone else has encountered? Any ideas?

Have you replaced the belts. There maybe something wrong with the tape motor power supply.

My guess would be the power switch itself the problem is it's not a normal power switch and these things are not easy to rebuild or replace. I've had six of these boxes and every time one stop working it was due to the power switch.

I had this problem on a sharp turned out to be faulty insulation on the reed switches for the tape mech. Try by passing them.
