.

These stupid farking tape decks , having rubber driving the decks is like have a Sherman tank with rubber bands driving the tracks.
Im lucky Floyd lad, both of my decks have new belts which is great as there is no way id try re belting one of these buddy

I gave up one mine 5 minutes into the job lol.
I stripped those tiny ass screws that hold the top plate on the upper deck .

My original m90 sat in the closet under some junk until about 2004 when I finally decided to work on the deck which only needed belts and I did open it up once then quickly put the back on and said **** it till I finally summoned up the balls to work on it.

Little late, but if you're in there rebelting, put in an SBS9.2 instead of an SBS8.9; it's a little too tight and it will impact rewind performance. This deck is fairly sensitive to the belt tension because of the little plastic gear that moves when you switch between fwd/rwd.

Been reading a bunch of different threads and topics trying to find out the definitive belt sizing for the lower deck. Flywheel to motor = FBM9.6, underneath flywheel to other two pulleys = SBS9.2, to tape counter = ? Sorry I know this has all been covered just looking for the info in one spot!

This rewind performance issue is something I've read about as well. You mentioned a nut/bolt/washer solution, didn't you caution? I think I'll buy both sizes and try the larger first

Yeah. The SBS9.2 wouldn't work on my C100F. Just slipped and slipped. If you can find a washer whose inner diameter is just a touch larger than the shaft on the back of the tape run module, tape it down on that to avoid the shaft from skewing under tension from the counter belt.

I never check belt sizes I literally just pick the one that seems best and change it up or down if the deck doesn’t run right. I’m lucky enough to have bought up a closing down hifi shops stock of belts so I have a lot to choose from. Makes life so much easier

Very jealous Northerner. Trying to find a good place to order online here in Canada. There was one site I found with a ‘.co’ extension but they’re all out of the FBM 9.6. Best price I’ve found though—under 3 bucks CAD! There’s a guy here in Ottawa that my local hifi shop refers people to for belts. His prices are steep but I guess i’ll have to suck it up.

Will try your technique caution.

Thanks lads

belts deteriorate just sitting. best bet is to replace your stock every 5 years
Not so easy to do lol. Don’t know how old the ones I have are but they’re all good like new so far :-)
