Come to think of it I don't have any Sanyo's in my collection.
I've heard a big ben and let a 920 slip through my hands, but never owned on. I really do like the looks and and seem to have a hell of a following. so.........
I gotta get one soon.
But I'm a JVC man through and through. :sin:

hey Z --
if you decide to dabble :-)
and go for just one sanyo --

you normally wont have to spend lots of hundreds---
they are plentiful --
and the sound-for-price ratio is favorable

Gotta agree with Ira here...

As far as having a product line that was not diluted...Sanyo, Toshiba would probably be there with Hitachi following.

The problem with Panasonic and JVC is simple. You had brand saturation with so many models within earshot. For example:

JVC PC-30 and PC-37 are the same except for cosmetics. And pick a Kaboom. Panasonic was the same. Pick an RX Series i.e 5050/5150 or Later Bi-Amped DT Series. This tends to take away from the uniqueness and individuality factor.

At the higher end though...you have:

Sansui CP-5/7/55/77/99 anf FX-300/500/700R, Pioneer SK/CK Series, JVC PC-3/5/55 (The 11 while nice just doesn't measure up), Yamaha PC-8/9, Denon, Rotel, Telefunken, and Sony FH Series, Sharp GF-777/WF-939/HK-9000 and GX Series, Panasonic RX-7*** Series & RX-C100/300.

(As noted earlier, there was lots of brand saturation for Panasnic and JVC, but when you break it down to model series...it gets SUH-WEET!!!)

:-D

what a great looking pioneer
what model is it ??

Hello respected Mr. Ira, this Pioneer I own is an SK-606F
2hnw30y.jpg

It has grills also (I just didn't put them on so you could see the beautiful wizzers on it) :w00t:

It's got a Colored LCD Quartz Clock / Timer (it's working, these are just old pictures when I didn't have a AA battery on hand)

Now that I'm FINALLY on vacation, I'll post some more of my finds and I'll get some paining done (like i.e. the grills!) :-O

BTW, if you know where I can get a handle for it, I'd be eternally grateful...

OK, Oldskool, heard you the first time...
--------------------------
Strangeboombox :w00t: Ira can make you a wooden handle :w00t:
--------------------------
Ira: Ok, there's 11 nice Sanyo's there in that lineup and like I said, I have most of those except for 1 or 2 that I'm still looking for.

BUT: All the aka's and similar models aside, here are a dozen nice Panasonics that'll stack up very nicely against those Sanyos:

RX-A5
RX-A2
RX-7700
RX-7200
RX-7000
RX-5350
RX-5700
RX-5600
RX-5150
RX-5250
RX-C300
RX-C100

And I have like 8 of these 12, still looking to add a couple of those. :-D
So.... if anyone has a C9, RX-7000, RX-7200 they want to trade, I'm all ears.....

A colored LCD display sounds cool!

Can you post a pic of it with AA battery installed?

Yes of course Prime!!! I think the numbers are blue in color (if I remember correctly)

a handle for that mini pioneer can be made from 1" x 1/8" flat aluminum stock.
wood is wrong for box handles :-)

------------------------------
soopadooopa --
that a serious panny line-up you posted -

but 1/2 of them are 'too serious' :-) :-D
to look like boombox//ghettoblasters :-O :breakdance:

Dang Mr. Ira, too bad I can't find that kind of stock material here ( :'-( )... maybe if somebody has a beat up SK but with a pretty decent handle they'd like to sell I could do that... I don't even have a picture of what the original handle looks like :-/

Mostly agreeing with Ira!
But-kind of in my opinion-it's a 3-way tie with Sharp,Sanyo,JVC!!
The amount of ultra grails and the variety of heavy hitters is very numerous!!
I have the Sanyo
9935K
9970
9990K
9998
9994
and 2 newr ones-can't remember the #'s
Needing the Big Ben=X920!!
Love these!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But with
M70's
M-90's
PC-55's
M-71's and M75's
PC-5
and other serios grails-it's a heads up war!
The Sharps
HK9000
GF-9000
GF-1000
GF-767,777
GF-9696
WZ-939
& other serious power hitters then this makes it a 3-way tie for heavy hitters!!
Just my opinion here & there's many that are missing that I may have overlooked!
Great thread Ira-have a good saturday-GB. :-) :-P  :-O :surf: :choco: :breakdance: :stereo: :stereo:

Ira: So, the Panny line up should belong in the weirdest boombox thread instead? :w00t:
---------------------------------
GB, it was mentioned that the Panny brand had too may similar models that clouded individual recognition. So it is the case also with JVC since the M70, M71 and M75 are, for all practical purposes the same thing. Then there is the Sharps with the GF-777, GF-767, GF-919, GF-919, GF-1000 -- really really minor differences to where one can say the exact same thing.

---------------------------------
not weird --just not 'ghetto' :-) :-)

the 7000 , 7200, 5150, 5250,5600 and the 5700 are all beautiful-
but, to me - their designs look too sophisticated-
i have heard 4 of that 6 --
each one does sound very high-end solid

:w00t: EGG Zactly. So wherein lies the problem again?

I think I'm going to have to pry some of those overly sophisticated beautiful solid high end boxes off of you Ira. Maybe a nice M9970 or M9990 gettablasta grail in trade? :-D  ;-)
