Hello all, I'm a curator at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. We are mounting a major exhibition next summer (May 2024) on design and music, from the graphics of concert posters, flyers, and album covers to the functional designs of radios, stereos, speakers and boomboxes. The exhibition, titled Art of Noise, brings together hundreds of the visual artifacts of our collective musical listening experience.

I am looking for these boxes in beautiful exhibit worthy condition, to either borrow (all shipping/crating covered - ideally located in California) or purchase for the museum collection.

JVC RC M-90
Conion C-100F
Sharp GF 777
Sharp VZ 2000

Functional if possible, and in top condition (no dings, scratches, missing knobs, etc)

Thank you for any help/leads!
Joseph

It's SF Civic Center or downtown or SOMA Reli. How long do you think before they get defaced, smashed, disappeared or worse? For something like this, I think a straight sale would be preferred if you are willing to part with minty working examples, or if borrowed, then a contract stipulating the amounts of insurance coverage provided to ensure the priceless value of these top condition units, which are few and far between these days. No deductible on the parts of the owners, of course.

Hi all,
This exhibition is at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The boomboxes, if loaned, would be treated as fine art and fully insured.

The exhibition runs from May 4 - August 18, 2024 and we would need them from April 1, 2024 until the end of August, 2024. Please message me directly if you are interested!

Yes, the JVC M70 too.

This is a great opportunity to have your box in a museum. As these will continue to gain value and the museum could display from time to time in different exhibitions. Can you image saying yeah my M90 is at MOMA want to go see it?

Might be cheaper to fly the owner and their blasters out/back to that location to at least insure the transportation damage is limited. Still would need insurance while they are on display as well.

Just a question on the display, will these units be powered on and used while in the exhibit or just something to look at?

Better for the museum to purchase them themselves. Everyone is safe then. This hobby isn’t as innocent as it used to be.

We are open to purchasing, and also have local folks interested in purchasing and then lending to the exhibition (with recognition). If you have, or know of, any of these, please DM me. Thank you.
